Intel® Easy Steps: Lubna’s Story
Lubna Javed is a 39 year old woman from Shaheed Benazirabad, a small rural district of Sindh Province. Lubna’s father is a clerk in District Administrators office and her mother is a house wife, she has 6 brothers and sisters. She completed bachelor’s degree in Civics and Islamic Education from Government Degree College, Shaheed Benazirabad in 1992. Soon afterward, she started a tailoring business to help support her family. Lubna has never traveled outside the province where she lives. When Lubna heard that the Teacher Training Center at Shaheed Benazirabad was conducting PC training for adults, she was excited and registered for the workshop. “I attended the Intel Easy Step Workshop and learnt about computers for the first time. I was so motivated as a new user that I decided to purchase a computer for use at home. The experience completely changed my life” said Lubna.
Lubna used the newly acquired PC skills to improve her work practices and she began to use word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software in her work, but it was the web browser that fulfilled her biggest dreams. Lubna found that she could reach out to the world beyond her small town through the internet to find new ideas and designs for dress making that could boost her business. Before gaining computer skills through the Intel Easy Steps Program, Lubna used pen and paper to design her dresses and she visited markets and boutiques in her area to search for new fashions and designs. “I always wanted to visit Karachi markets but I couldn’t get a chance”, she said.
