Intel Invests in our Communities

Investing in communities

Community Giving

Each year, Intel, its employees, and the Intel Foundation contribute millions of dollars to improve education, provide disaster relief, and enable nonprofit organizations to improve lives.

Investing in America

Intel is a global corporation, with more than half of Intel’s manufacturing done in the United States. Intel’s U.S. investments have made it one of the top employers in both Arizona and New Mexico—as well as Oregon’s largest corporate employer—with key facilities in eight states. Employees across these campuses take pride in supporting local schools, non profits and educational math and science-based programs.

Inspiring young innovators; supporting teachers and schools

The Intel Foundation sponsors the most prestigious high school science competition in the U.S., the Intel Science Talent Search, and the world’s largest science competition, the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Both of these competitions are Society for Science & the Public programs.

The Intel® Teach Program helps teachers integrate technology tools into lessons and know how, when, and where to engage students with technology for critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. In the U.S., Intel offers Intel® Teach Elements, a series of compelling, short professional development courses for teachers that provide deeper exploration of modern learning concepts. Teachers learn new methods, such as project-based approaches, assessment of technology skills, and collaboration with online tools.

Intel Schools of Distinction honors K-12 schools that demonstrate excellence in math and science education.

Strengthening communities

Intel doesn’t just work in our communities—we also work with them. We combine the technical expertise, creative ideas, and energy of our employees to enrich communities across America.

Through the Intel Involved Volunteer Program, more than a quarter of the company’s U.S. employees donate thousands of hours to education, environmental programs, and other local community needs. Through the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program, the Intel Foundation gives to schools and community organizations cash donations of $10 for every hour employees volunteer.

Annually, employees make contributions to non-profit organizations through the Intel Community Giving campaigns and these donations are matched with Intel Foundation funds for the United Way. In 2009, the U.S. Community Giving Campaign raised more than $12 million.

Environmental sustainability

Intel works to reduce the environmental impact of its operations—from cutting greenhouse gas emissions to minimizing water use to recycling and reusing materials.

Disaster relief

Intel, the Intel Foundation, and Intel employees are quick to respond in times of disaster with cash grants, recovery programs, and technology donations. Our comprehensive response to communities affected by disasters addresses both short- and long-term needs.
